I was driving to Germany in Christmas 2014 so had to buy winters but I only do around 5000 miles per year so didn't want the expense of separate wheels and both winter / summer tyres. I checked Continental's UK website and they recommended in the UK, if you are only to run one set of tyres, winters would be preferable. I purchased the 830Ps after seeing them rated top in a number of winter reviews but, more importantly, finished above budget brands in a summer tyre review (most people are concerned about winter performance in summer). Personally, I have had no trouble on these tyres, they have gripped well in all conditions from sub zero to 25 degrees c in the summer and in both wet and dry. Note, I have not driven in snow but would expect them to perform well. I have a reasonable right foot and like a good brisk drive through the countryside occasional :-) - in terms of wear, I just had a check up at local BMW dealer and after nearly 1 year and 5k miles the fronts are still close to 8mm and backs are at 7mm so plenty of wear left. I have a mix of mainly town traffic driving but occasional 200 mile motorway journeys. The are quite noisy and I do feel a little more bumpy than previous summer tyres but overall not to the point of being annoying. If you're looking for winters at normal tyre sizes without having to buy two sets then I thoroughly recommend these tyres for your BMW.

I spent a lot of time reading reports and researching which tyres would be best for my BMW in winter especially as I was working well outside of town in a countryside area prone to snow and non-gritted roads in winter with some steep inclines on the route so the potential for difficulty in winter was high. When the snow did come I can only say I was so pleased with the results as I steadily made my way up a 1in4 looking at all the cars that were struggling or had just been abandoned by the roadside waiting for someone to pull them out... even the idiot in the Audi A4 trying to skate uphill on the wrong side of the road into oncoming, downhill traffic round a blind corner because the snow build up appeared lighter on the other side... (I often wonder what happened to him) All in all brilliant tyres in snow, slush and just cold & wet conditions. MPG suffered slightly as you'd expect but thats a fair trade off for safer handling and improved road holding. I probably left them on a bit too long after the winter and in warmer, dry conditions they are are too soft and MPG and handling took a real hammering but then that's not what they're designed for. Winter performance was so good I'm almost looking forward to next winter just so I can have a chuckle at all the people who can't be bothered to switch to winter tyres.

Had same type on my Citroen C5 tourer as all-year round tyres - easily still winter-class tread after 30,000 miles. These newer lower profile run-flats ar on my Citroen C6 - a BIG HEAVY car. Trip to French Alps in soft and packed snow showed them superior in grip/control compared to those in chains - no problems anywhere. Bit noisier than the ones on my C5 but then lower profile and run-flats so expected Drive a lot in UK on motoways below 7deg C so get a lot of testing on cold weather suitability - wouldn't drive on anything else (I keep them on all year - get good treadwear even so). Deep tread superb for the water-covered skid pan also known as the (Merseyside) M62...

I am pretty satisfied with Continental ContiWinterContact TS 830 . Previously I had the chance to test them in Italian mountains and I have to say that they impressed me pretty much. My ESP system turns-on very rarely. In my previous tyres I had to put chains on but those Continental ContiWinterContact TS830 P performs very good without snow-chains. I have to say that with temperatures above 10 cellsiuss my car is swimming on corners, but I think that it is normal as it is winter tyre and the rubber compund is getting softer once the temperature is going higher.I do not regrett my purchase and definitely I do recommend Continental ContiWinterContact TS830 P.

Continental ContiWinterContact TS830 P is a model which I used to put in all of my cars. I had them on my Laguna, Ibiza, Astra and now they are on my Volvo. It is very hard for me to point out even a single disadvantage of the ContiWinterContact TS830 P tread. Although the price isn't relatively low in comparison to other brands on the market, but I am sure that it is worth to spend a bit more money and be absolutely sure that you are safe, rather than going for a cheap budget chineese tyre which can be lethal actually. My priority is safety and comfort of my passangers that is why I always wear Continental ContiWinterContact TS830 P during winter.

Continental ContiWinterContact TS 830 P 215/55 R18 99 V XL, FR, SUV
The presented tyre is marked with 3PMSF symbol (Three Peak Mountain Snow Flake). It means that the tyre meets the EU requirements for winter tyres. The symbol is awarded after thorough tests of a tyre model in terms of snow grip.
Technology description: Continental ContiWinterContact TS830 P is a winter tyre designed specially for high-end passenger cars.
Continental ContiWinterContact TS830 P has a very stiff tread blocks and a dense web of notches. Their edges bite into slippery surfaces, improving grip and reducing braking distance on wet and icy roads. Another benefit from such a solution is much better traction on snow. The vehicle precisely responds to the wheel movements and does not lose stability.
The distribution of the tread blocks and the tyre-ground contact area are very uniform. This results in longer tyre life. Continental ContiWinterContact TS830 P is a tyre for drivers who look for modern tyres that ensure the top level of safety.

Fuel efficiency is rated from A to G on a colour-coded scale. The highest fuel efficiency rating is A (green; the lowest rolling resistance), while the lowest fuel efficiency rating is G (red; the highest rolling resistance). Rolling resistance influences fuel consumption and vehicle emissions; the lower the resistance, the lower the fuel consumption and exhaust fume emissions.
Wet grip is the tyre's ability to adhere to the road surface in wet conditions. The EU rating focuses only on the wet braking performance of the tyre. Wet grip is rated from A to G, where A represents the best braking performance and G represents the worst. It is one of the most crucial safety parameters.
Tyres contribute to the amount of noise a vehicle generates. Choosing a tyre with a good noise rating will lower the impact of your driving on the surrounding environment.
