Continental WinterContact TS 860 features

The presented tyre is marked with 3PMSF symbol (Three Peak Mountain Snow Flake). It means that the tyre meets the EU requirements for winter tyres. The symbol is awarded after thorough tests of a tyre model in terms of snow grip.

Continental WinterContact TS 860 is another winter tyre from the legendary line of this German firm. Tyres marked with "TS" have been recognised for last few years as one of the best on the market. The previous model (TS 850) was one of the best rated tyres in Continental history. The tyre was tested in more than 47 tests and was frequently awarded with top grades. TS 850 is also highly appreciated by customers. More than 90% of our customers recommend it. Continental declares that WinterContact TS860 is even better.

On the wet, winter roads Continental WinterContact TS 860 offers 5% shorter braking distance than its predecessor. On the ice, braking is more effective by 4%. Continental engineers have also managed to improve overall tyre performance on slippery surfaces. Rolling resistances and wear resistance are comparable to its predecessor, the TS850.

The high performance of Continental WinterContact TS 860 was achieved by the use of a modified rubber blend and modified tread pattern. The "Cool Chili" blend contains a lot of silica, which shortens the braking distance on wet surfaces. The polymer ingredients of the blend are specially selected to maximise traction on winter surfaces and at low temperatures. Continental WinterContact TS 860 offers full control of the vehicle in the most difficult conditions.

Moreover, the tyre uses an innovative water evacuation system. Driving and braking on a slippery surface creates a kind of fluid coat that increases the contact area with the road and reduces the risk of skidding. This solution greatly improves safety when driving on glazed frost.

This model has a directional tread without circumferential grooves, which is characteristic of modern winter tyres. Its characteristic feature is SnowCurve technology with 3D grooves arranged all over the tread surface. The additional groove on the walls of the tread blocks ensure better grip in the snow, which significantly improves traction and control on slippery roads.

Continental tyres are designed for a variety of road conditions: dry, wet, snowy and icy roads. Such conditions are typical from October to March in Central Europe. Therefore, Continental WinterContact TS 860 is perfect for the winter season.

Continental is a German tyre manufacturer which is well-known and appreciated all over the world. The company offers high-tech tyres. Their tyres are fitted as standard on the best car models. Continental is in a class by itself. In addition to its own brand, the group owns the majority of shares in companies like Uniroyal, Barum, Viking, Matador and Semperit.

I've been thinking about choosing a winter car tyre for a long time. I have already traveled on various, from the cheapest budget, to premium tyres of different brands. I must admit that I had doubts about whether it is worth buying tyres at this price, but after a whole winter I can say that this choice was very good. The tyres traveled on very different roads and in different parts of the country. They worked great on the highway or express way. Good grip and reaction to steering movements. The braking distance was also not a problem. In the period when the snow fell and during the trips to the mountains undergone baptism of fire, despite fears and strange comments that fitters and friends gave, they were just sensational. In places where others had a problem with the driveway, moving away, I was moving as if there was neither snow nor ice on the road. To sum up: if you have money, take care of your safety and passengers, choose Continental. They will not let you down.

I chose the tyres for our winter conditions (ie a lot of rain, slush, etc.). In many tyre tests (in our country and foreign) they occupy leading positions and this is confirmed. In our conditions, the winter tyre is great, it behaves well on wet, on snow and on slush. Despite 150 hp and front drive, the traction is really good. A bit worse in deep snow, but at this same time good for such a tread. It is fairly quiet. As for the abrasiveness after traveling 4-4,5 thousand miles it's hard to say, it's not excessive. But the other continental tyres I owned were very good.

The used tyres are the Continental WinterContact TS 860 195/65 R15 T91 with the label: C - rolling resistance, B - braking on wet, volume - 72 dB. The tyres are probably quieter than the EU label says. On a wet surface, there is a slight slip when starting faster. Rolling resistance is class C and there is actually more fuel consumption than when using class B tyres. The high profile (65) and the T speed index (120 mph) are noticeable at highway speeds and lateral winds.

Winter in 2017/18 wasn’t hard, but it was snowing few times. From the winter tyre, above all, the good snow grip is expected. Unfortunately, several times I was braking on the snow at low speed and I did not see any difference between this tyre and the others I had before - eg Fulda. I would expect more after the premium class, and as I wrotethe deference was very small if not no noticeable difference.

Good in the wet, good in the dry, excels in snow. Reassuring predictable tyre. Good at high speed - often one can forget they are winters. Tough too. Only 2 possible gripes - turn in one can feel the blocks moving a fraction (but these are way better than Alpin 5s for that). Also, ride a bit soft on them - but comfy++
