Mitsubishi Eclipse

The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sporty coupé developed by Mitsubishi, first introduced in 1989. The first generation, produced from 1989 to 1994, marked the brand's entry into the compact sports car segment. It was offered in multiple trim levels, including the Eclipse GS, which featured enhanced equipment, and the GS DOHC, powered by a 16-valve engine delivering 150 hp. The most powerful front-wheel-drive version was the GS-T, equipped with a turbocharged engine producing 195 hp. This same turbocharged engine was also available in the all-wheel-drive Eclipse GSX. A limited-edition Targa model was also released, with only 300 units produced. In 1995, Mitsubishi launched the second generation of the Eclipse, featuring a redesigned body and a new engine lineup, including naturally aspirated Chrysler 420A engines and Mitsubishi Sirius series engines. A minor facelift followed in 1997, updating the headlights, front grille, and bumpers. This generation was also sold under the Eagle Talon nameplate. The third generation debuted in 1999, replacing the aging Sirius engines with more modern options: a 2.4L inline-four producing 140–147 hp and a 3.0L V6 generating 200–210 hp. Built on the same platform as the Mitsubishi Galant, this version gained some weight but offered improved performance and comfort. In 2005, the fourth and final generation of the Eclipse was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. It featured more powerful engine options, including a 2.4L engine with 165 hp and a 3.8L V6 delivering 263 hp. Production of the Mitsubishi Eclipse ended in 2011.
