I HAVE BEEN USING GOOD QUALITY SUMMER TYRES RENOWNED BRANDS ALL YEAR ROUND FOR NEARLY 30 YEARS, USING PROFESSIONAL DRIVING STANDARDS AND KNOWLEDGE TO KEEP ME AND MY FAMILY SAFE. I DECIDED TO FINALLY TRY WINTER TYRES,AS A BIT OF AN EXPERIMENT. HAVING USED FALKEN TYRES MANY TIMES IN THE PAST I WENT FOR THE FALKEN HS 449 EURO WINTER, I USED THIS TYRE IN ALL !! TYPES OF WEATHER AND ROAD SURFACES IE DRY,DAMP,WET,TORRENTIAL RAIN, MUD, GRAVEL AND FINALLY SNOW/SLUSH. I WAS UNABLE TO FAULT THIS TYRE ON ANY SURFACE OR WEATHER " ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC " I WENT MENTAL ON SNOW ON A PREVIOUSLY USED RALLY STAGE, BRILLIANT TIME WAS HAD,NO OFF ROAD EXCURSIONS, TYRES PERFORMED FAULTLESSLY !!!!!!!!!

These tyres give me great confidence in both wet and dry conditions but especially so in wet and muddy conditions, as in country lanes. I haven't had a chance to test them in the snow as yet. I was impressed with the fact that they have 9mm tread depth when new though. I have only driven around 2000 miles on them so far with mixed driving and they are still on 9mm. I have nothing adverse to say about these tyres and I would recommend them to anyone looking to buy a decent winter tyre.

On The journey these tyres do daily the weather changes continuously in winter. We live 120 metres above sea level so if the temperature is -1 here then the car goes down the hill on to motorway driving . 13 miles after that it goes in the hills and changes to country riads where it can be -10 , icy, snowing, slush . Not been on really deep snow yet, but they were good on a few inches of snow.

Product description

Falken HS 449 205/70 R16 97 H

Technical description:

The Falken HS 449 is a mid-range winter tyre designed for passenger cars. It features a specially designed directional tread which offers superb handling in any of the conditions encountered during winter at our geographical latitude. Tests have proven that the tyres are extremely effective at dispersing water and slush, which improves grip and driving stability. The tyres are manufactured from a specially formulated silica-enhanced rubber compound which guarantees resistance to various types of damage and deformation and durability at low temperatures. The compound's flexibility reduces rolling resistance, which in turn results in lower fuel consumption and savings for the driver.

Information about the manufacturer:

Falken is a Japanese-owned tyre manufacturer which was founded in 1983 and currently belongs to the Sumitomo Group. The brand supplies tyres to around 100 countries around the world, and for vehicles such as: Subaru, Suzuki and Daihatsu. The brand is also involved in motor sports and manufactures tyres for vehicles participating in e.g. the renowned 24 Hours of Le Mans race. All these factors serve as evidence of the high quality of Falken-manufactured tyres.

Fuel efficiency (rolling distance)

Fuel efficiency is rated from A to G on a colour-coded scale. The highest fuel efficiency rating is A (green; the lowest rolling resistance), while the lowest fuel efficiency rating is G (red; the highest rolling resistance). Rolling resistance influences fuel consumption and vehicle emissions; the lower the resistance, the lower the fuel consumption and exhaust fume emissions.

Wet grip

Wet grip is the tyre's ability to adhere to the road surface in wet conditions. The EU rating focuses only on the wet braking performance of the tyre. Wet grip is rated from A to G, where A represents the best braking performance and G represents the worst. It is one of the most crucial safety parameters.

Noise

Tyres contribute to the amount of noise a vehicle generates. Choosing a tyre with a good noise rating will lower the impact of your driving on the surrounding environment.
