Kumho KU31

Tyre details:

The Kumho KU31 is the ideal solution for the summer season. It is a mid-range product designed for drivers who place a premium on both safety and superb driving comfort, and offers outstanding grip on both dry and wet roads. The tyre's design is based on a model once used as original equipment in Mercedes vehicles (among others). It is the number-one product manufactured by Kumho, a company which is very popular among drivers.

The Kumho KU31 tyre took first place in the Auto-Świat rankings published in 2007, and was described as a model which delivers superlative grip on both dry and wet roads. Driving stability is guaranteed by the tyre's central rib, and the tread design ensures adaptability to every type of road. The tyre architecture minimises rolling resistance and ensures a uniform distribution of forces, which reduces tyre noise. Two wide channels which disperse water ensure that contact between the tyre and the road is maintained continuously, and the risk of slipping is reduced to zero. The diagonal sipes on the shoulder also guarantee comfort when going round corners. The designers of the Kumho KU31 chose a silica-enhanced compound which improves both the quality and mileage performance of the tyre.

The reliability of the Kumho KU31 has been demonstrated in many tests, and the model has also been highly ranked for its grip on both dry and wet roads. The Kumho KU31 is the ideal summer tyre for owners of mid- and premium-range vehicles capable of high speeds, and an outstanding choice for fast drivers. The Kumho KU31 delivers reliable performance in a wide range of different weather conditions.

    Opinion from outside the UK

I have my Kumho KU31 tyres in the size 225/55R16. I bought them because they have good resutls in the tests, and they are cheap, compared to Michelin. At first, I bought two tyres for the front axle. Comapred to my previous Sunny they are way better. After two months, I bought another two for the rear and it was there where I got a bit disappointed. At the speed of 95 MPH the whole car shakes. I got the wheels re-balanced three times, but with no avail. It turned out that my two new tyres were faulty and I got two new ones. Now it's fine, but I was nervous for some time due to that. I can say thar Kumho KU31 are very good in the rain - you don't hear anything, they cut through the water nicely. I don't know if I buy Kumho KU31 again in a year or two after such trouble, but overall I can recommend them. Kumho KU31 are good tyres for a decent price. Read more Collapse

I did drive for 22000 miles, relax driving style, still legal to drive on protectors fabulous shape still in there, but this is only been used for short period of the time as I'm cab driver and did 22000 miles within 5 month, looks still like new probably another 3-4000 mile will last for me, handling very good in any type of weather and road condition, I would definitely recommend for easy going drivers on XL, never had any failures, balancing easy and drives straight, it's been used with no swaping in front wheel, and car front wheel drive, in general I do recommend this tyres there do more than its cost, enjoy driving :):):) Read more Collapse

Kumho KU31 look nice on my alloys. The ECSTA mark on the tyres looks very effective but it wears off after a few thousand miles (on the drive axle). Very quiet tyres, they drain the water from under the car like crazy. Perfect sports-class rubber compound (only the best tyres have a compound with the addition of silica). I am very pleased with them. Kumho KU31 are underrated but they are frequently used in Dakar trucks and in the US. It's worth to look through Kumho offer. They have a huge variety from slicks to go-kart tyres, car tyres and terrain tyres. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

I will be using Kumho KU31 tyres for the second season now. I have them fitted to my Honda Civic Type R. Compared to to Toyo Proxes T1-R they are much more durable, cheaper and they give pretty much the same grip (however, remember that you need to warm the tyre up before dynamic and fast driving). On wet road Toyo were average, much worse than Kumho KU31. When it comes to noise level, these tyres surprised me as well as they are quite silent for directional tyres. I definitely recommend buying Kumho KU31. Read more Collapse

Kumho KU31 have never let me down, so I don't look for any other ones. They are not very popular, probably because they are not as widely available and not as cheap as they were. I used to drive on quieter and louder tyres, but it's not a drawback for me. I need efficiency, and Kumho KU31 do the job very well. I am not surprised by its highest braking and wet performance indicators. They disperse the water wery well and on dry they behave great as well. I definitely recommend Kumho KU31 as a decent tyre. Opinion from outside the UK

Kumho KU31 are not very quiet - after ca. 5000 miles their noise became significant. I bought them about 3 months ago and at the beginning everything was just fine. Unfortunately, after driving a short distance the tyres start to produce very loud rumble. After the inspection it turned out the tyres feathered. The noise in the car is unbearable and is similar to a wheel bearing failure. Because of that, I completely don't recommend Kumho KU31 tyres and I warn everyone of getting those tyres. I was finding the standard fit pirelli p zero tyres fine in the dry but in the wet they would loose traction very easily, a friend of mine recommended the ku31s and at the price point I couldn't really argue. Tried them on the rear driven wheels and found them to be significantly better in the wet than the old tyres, dry weather grip is virtually the same too. Travelled nearly 6000 miles on these now and really can't fault them buy some before they go up in price! Read more Collapse

I have to admit that Kumho KU31 are my first tyres, but I can't complaint about them in any way. I drive fast and dynamically, and the tyres have never let me down. They superbly grip in the corners, at the lights the car starts out immediately after pressing the throttle, and in the rain they give you a feeling of safety. Not to mention they look awesome. Overall, I definitely recommend Kumho KU31 - it's a great tyre at a decent price. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

Kumho KU31 behave very well on wet surface, except for water-flooded ruts. They also have the tendency for unacceptable swerving in the corners on dry - they are just too soft. They wear off quite fast. In my case, they quickly feathered, which resulted in high noise level and terrible driving comfort. Distance driven is 32 thousand miles. In my opinion, I find Kumho KU31 not very good, therefore I don't recommend them. Read more Collapse

I can't say much about Kumho KU31 tyres, as I only did ca. 500 miles around the city. I bought them to drive on the motorway in the rain, and it will be there where I will check them out. However, at the moment I can say that thay grip the road nicely and the car keeps its track in the corners. Kumho KU31 are worth recommending. The tread looks very agressive (in addition, the ECSTA mark written on the tread makes people think that these tyres are really expensive). Perfect grip in corners as well as during staring, the tyres won't even squeal. (My last Barums were so loud that I thought they will accidentaly fall off the wheel) My friend was satisfied as well. He put KU31 on his Honda Accord. Read more Collapse

Kumho KU31 are fantastic tyres. I've been looking for tyres at a medium price range, and as for me - they are sensational. I don't see any reasons to buy tyres from "top shelf", as these ones behave superbly. The only drawback is that they became quite loud after doing 22 thousand miles. However, I am generally satisfied with Kumho KU31 and I definitely recommend them to all drivers. Read more Collapse

I definitely recommend Kumho KU31. I have been looking for good tyres for a long time and I read a lot of information. Kumho KU31 are widely recommended by American and British users. After driving ca. 11 thousand miles, I am also happy with them - for me, their big advantage is their behaviour on wet surface. It handles much better then eg. factory fitted Michelin Energy Saver. I drive 2nd season on Kumho KU31 and Im 100% satisfied. Car grips very good in corners like sticked to the tarmac. Perfect for agressive style of driving. 120MPH and my car still handles very good. They dont rumble. On wet surface they behave good as well. Read more Collapse

I smelled rubber right after I wear them but after about 300 miles everythign was ok, the smell disapeared. On wet road surface better not to brake because you can dangerously slip. Im talking about sudden breaking and 90° corners. Read more Collapse

They grip very well on dry condition. The only disadvantege is that they rubb off vey fast . I drove 9000 miles and i think I will make only 500 mile more. Maybe they wont rubb of so fast but you have to drive slower than i did :) Read more Collapse
