ADAC 175/65 R14 T and 205/55 R16 V Summer Tyre Tests

ADAC annual tests are eagerly awaited by many drivers as they often base the final choice on their results. And there is a reason. The tests conducted by the German automobile club are backed up by over 100 years of experience and qualified staff, creating very reliable reports. The tyres checked vary in class and price range. Despite few controversies in recent years, these tests are definitely worth the attention.

Falken Sincera SN832 Ecorun best for city cars

The results of this year's ADAC 175/65 R14 Test can be quite surprising for some drivers. The first two places went to middle-class manufacturers, the representative of premium brand, Dunlop Street Response 2 was placed last on the podium. However, there are no manipulations here. Both Semperit Comfort-Life 2 and the winner of the test, Falken Sincera SN832 Ecorun, are top-shelf models.

The dominance of premium class in the ADAC 205/55 R16 ranking

While the results of the size 175/65 R14 were a bit surprising, 205/55 R16 leaves no doubt all the podium places were occupied by top-class premium producers, confirming the legitimacy of their position on the market. The highest ranked were:

Behind these three were representatives of the middle class range: Firestone Roadhawk, Hankook Ventus Prime 3 K125 and Semperit Speed-Life 2.

Michelin Primacy 3 has been valued by ADAC specialists mainly in two areas: wear resistance and performance on a dry surface.

In the durability category, Primacy 3 obtained the highest possible rating (1.0). Thanks to a special design and a modern blend, it can travel up to 30% longer than the average performance achieved by the premium class.

Auto moto und Sport 225/45 R17 tyres ranking

225/45 R17 is a size often used in sports cars.

225/45 R17 is a size often used in sports cars.

The rankings by one of the most popular automotive magazines AMD attract many readers every year. This season, the size 225/45 R17, commonly used in medium and high-class cars, was given to the editors' review. It is particularly well-suited for cars with a more sportier feel, such as the Audi TT , Alfa Romeo Guiletta or BMW M3 .

The highest average score was achieved by Michelin Pilot Sport 4, clearly leaving the competing models behind. The Aramid-nylon braids (material also used in bulletproof vests) and extremely responsive tread design enabled the tyre designers to achieve unusually high parameters on dry and wet surfaces, while at the same time ensuring low environmental harm.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 won in two out of three categories, obtaining an average score of 9.4 points, one of the highest in the history of the magazine. Just behind, were placed identical scores (8.5) - Continental PremiumContact 6 and Falken Azenis FK510 .

Ranking of summer tyres AutoZeitung 225/45 R17

AutoZeitung, the influential German magazine, decided to conduct tests on the same size as Auto Moto und Sport. The results confirmed the dominance of three tyres in the ranks.

280 points

Continental PremiumContact 6

263 points

Falken Azenis FK510

256 points

It clearly shows that places in the AMD ranking were not accidental and there are three undisputed leaders. However, in contrast to the ranks of auto moto and sport, we do not have such a visible advantage of the French model over the rest of the competitors.

In both magazines, the highest-rated Michelin Pilot Sport 4 was the wet performance .

ACE / GTÜ 235/45 R18 Summer Tyres Test for bigger cars

ACE Auto Club in cooperation with the German Association of Technical Inspection (GTÜ) every year conducts a series of tests of all-season and seasonal tyres. The tests compares European brands, as well as products from Asian and American markets. The results are widely respected and are considered one of the most reliable.

Larger cars require tyres with specific parameters.

This year's test carried out by the German organisations concerned 235/45 R18 tyres , designed for heavier vehicles and luxury cars. The competition for the highest places turned out to be extremely fierce. Finally, Falken Azenis FK510 won, overtaking the Kumho Ecsta PS71 and Nokian zLane  by only a point.

The key parameters for the Azenis FK510 were very low levels of generated noise  and excellent performance on dry surfaces. However, its high position was achieved primarily due to stable parameters in all examined categories. Falken Azenis FK510 is an extremely quiet and reliable tyre .

Autobild 195/65 r15 Summer Tyres Test - influences from Asia

The Far East, next to Europe and North America, is the largest centre of the tyre world. While the budget products of unknown brands from the Asian market are taken on the Old Continent with some precaution, premium and middle-class products are among the most-bought products.

It is no different with the Korean Hankook, which tyres have often set new trends in the automotive industry. The offer for this year's summer season - the Hankook Ventus Prime3 K125 - beat the competition in the battle for the award of the best 195/65 R15 tyre according to Autobild magazine.

Hankook logo

Hankook Ventus Prime3 K125 is an excellent choice for drivers looking for modern technology solutions at an affordable price. An unusual tread design with a closed outer rib, provides incredible stability during manoeuvres and shortens the stopping distance in the wet by up to 8% (compared to the previous generation).

Autobild Allrad 265/60 R18 Summary for SUVs and Pickups

This year's ranking was not particularly surprising. It was dominated by tyres of well-known manufacturers.

According to the German magazine, the highest performance in the test had Continental SportContact 5 SUV, created for dynamic driving.

Among the awarded products were also Hankook Ventus ST RH06 tyres and a universal model with high performance, Goodyear Efficientgrip SUV.

The original technology Black Chilli allows you to speed down quickly without losing control of the car (special types of resins used in the blend significantly shorten the braking distance on each type of surface). The modern CapBase tread will satisfy any driver who is seeking safe tyres with a good grip for SUVs.

While there are no major surprises on the podium, there are some surprises among the recommended models.

In addition to the tyres listed in the table, the fourth one in the 245/30 R20 ranking – Vredestein Ultrac Vorti R also deserved the "exemplary" rating. A model from a premium-class manufacturer, mainly associated with excellent tyres for the winter season.

First and foremost the performance - Gute Fahrt 205/55 R16 ranking

The comparison by the popular German magazine included tyres from various classes and price ranges, however only four models managed to get the "very good" note.

The winner was the American Goodyear’s tyre, which received the highest verbal rating in all tested categories.

Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance

In addition, three all-season tyres have been tested by Gute Fahrt, with an indication of summer performance. The best rated was Goodyear Vector 4Season Gen-2 , which received the note "good". The same rating was also obtained by Continental AllSeason Contact. The lowest placed  was Fulda Multicontrol, which nevertheless deserved a positive result as "satisfactory".

It's worth choosing wisely

This year's list of models featured in the tests did not bring many surprises. The highest positions were occupied mainly by tyres of premium and medium class manufacturers. The most popular products were Continental (6 times), Michelin (5) and Falken (5). The Falken Azenis FK510 model appeared in the tests most frequently.

Press tests provide drivers with demonstrative information on the models available for the season. The final choice, however, should be based on a larger number of sources.
