The SEAT Altea is a compact MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle), positioned in the K-segment. Alongside the SEAT Alhambra, it represents the brand’s offering of sporty yet family-oriented vans. The Altea was SEAT’s first model in this category and one of the pioneers in its segment across the automotive market. Launched in 2004, the vehicle was designed by renowned automotive designer Walter de’Silva and built on the Volkswagen Group’s PQ35 platform.
The SEAT Altea is available with a range of petrol and diesel engines. Petrol options include: 1.4 16V (86 HP), 1.4 TSI (125 HP), 1.6 16V (102 HP), 1.8 TSI (160 HP), 2.0 FSI (150 HP), and 2.0 TFSI (200 HP). Diesel variants include: 1.9 TDI 8V (105 HP), 2.0 TDI 8V (140 HP), and 2.0 TDI 16V with outputs of 136, 140, and 170 HP.
In 2009, the Altea received a subtle facelift, aligning its design more closely with the fourth-generation SEAT Ibiza. Two additional versions of the Altea were introduced: the Altea XL and the Altea Freetrack.
The SEAT Altea XL, launched in 2006, is an extended version of the standard model. It is nearly 20 cm longer, offering approximately 120 litres of extra luggage space. The XL also comes with enhanced standard equipment, making it a more practical choice for families.
The SEAT Altea Freetrack is based on the XL and blends MPV functionality with SUV capabilities, offering improved performance on light off-road terrain. It is available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (4x4). Engine options for the Freetrack include a 2.0 TFSI petrol engine (200 HP) and two 2.0 TDI diesel engines with 140 and 170 HP. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual or a DSG automatic gearbox. Compared to the XL, the Freetrack features unique bumpers, mudguards, a larger air intake, and twin exhaust pipes for a more rugged appearance.
The SEAT Altea earned a five-star rating in Euro NCAP safety tests, highlighting its strong safety credentials.
