The Seat Alhambra is a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that has been in production since 1996. It was developed as part of a joint venture between Volkswagen and Ford, resulting in the creation of three closely related models: the Volkswagen Sharan, Ford Galaxy, and Seat Alhambra. All three were initially manufactured by AutoEuropa in Portugal.
The first-generation Alhambra debuted at the 1996 Geneva Motor Show and was offered with a wide range of powertrains. Petrol engine options included a 1.8 20V Turbo with 150 hp, a 2.0-liter with 115 hp, and a 2.8 VR6 24V producing 204 hp. Diesel variants featured the 1.9 TDI in several power outputs (90 hp, 110 hp, 115 hp, 130 hp, and 150 hp), as well as a 2.0 TDI with 140 hp. In 2000, the Alhambra received a significant facelift, which included updates to the interior, front fascia, headlights, and bumpers, giving it a more modern and refreshed appearance.
The second-generation Seat Alhambra was introduced in 2010 and was developed exclusively in collaboration with Volkswagen. It shares its platform with the second-generation Volkswagen Sharan but features a more dynamic, sporty, and aggressive design. The wider body gives the vehicle a more robust and commanding presence on the road.
This generation of the Alhambra incorporates several advanced technologies aimed at improving efficiency and performance. These include a start-stop system that shuts off the engine when idling and a regenerative braking system that recovers energy during deceleration. The vehicle is powered by TSI and TDI engines with direct fuel injection and turbocharging. Petrol engines deliver either 110 kW (150 hp) or 147 kW (200 hp), while diesel options offer 103 kW (140 hp) or 125 kW (170 hp).
