Peugeot 206

The Peugeot 206 is a B-segment passenger car that gained fame as the best-selling model in the history of the French brand. As the sixth generation of the 20x series, it became a true sales phenomenon. Launched in 1998, this compact car stood out with its distinctive, aerodynamic design and narrow headlights, which appealed to a broad customer base. Remarkably, over 130,000 units were ordered even before its official release in showrooms. The Peugeot 206 enjoyed its greatest popularity in France and the United Kingdom, but it also attracted a strong following in other countries, including markets outside Europe. Between 2001 and 2003, it earned the title of Western Europe's Best-Selling Car, outperforming rivals like the VW Golf. The 206 offered a surprisingly spacious interior for its class, providing comfortable travel even for rear-seat passengers. It was available in several body styles, including three- and five-door hatchbacks, a saloon, an estate, and a coupé-cabriolet. In 2003, the model received a minor facelift to refresh its appearance. Under the hood, petrol engines were the most popular, particularly the 1.6-litre variants delivering either 88 hp or 110 hp. For performance enthusiasts, the sporty RC version featured a 2.0-litre engine producing 177 hp. Despite its many strengths, the Peugeot 206 had a few drawbacks. One notable issue was the design of the rear axle beam, which tended to wear out quickly and often required replacement after around 40,000 kilometres. Production of the Peugeot 206 ended in 2010, with over 13 million units manufactured globally. The model's legacy continued with the introduction of the 206+.
