If the tyres are wearing unevenly or if cracks or bulges have started to appear on the surface, this may indicate that they need to be replaced. The depth of the tread, or top layer of rubber, is also important. By law, this must not be less than 1.6 mm, but tyre manufacturers recommend replacing tyres as low as 3-4 mm, especially for winter models.
