Tyre details:

The Michelin Alpin 5 is the fifth generation of Michelin's famous Alpin winter tyre series. This model is the successor to the Michelin Alpin A4. The aim of this latest version of the "alpine" tyre is to offer drivers optimal safety in any conditions found in winter on European roads. The tyre has been in development for 4 years and features a sharp, directional tread pattern with deep grooves and innovative blocks, elements that ensure excellent performance on snow, ice and wet surfaces.

They quickly and effectively disperse snow, water and slush, thus guaranteeing optimal grip, which effectively protects against aquaplaning, for example (loss of grip on wet roads). The dense arrangement of blades on the surface of the Michelin Alpin 5 creates a so-called "claw effect", which gives the tyre optimal tractionon snow and accurate steerability. The rubber compound used to make the tyre obviously plays an important role. This model is made from a rubber compound containing sunflower oil and silica (Helio Compound 4G). The use of this material means that the tyre retains its flexibility even at very low temperatures and this is another element that improves grip whilst driving.

Michelin is a premium tyre manufacturer that is very popular all over the world. The group owns brands including: BFGoodrich, Kleber, Kormoran, Riken and Tiger. Most of us think of the company's famous mascot, Bibendum or the Michelin Man, who has been the face of the French brand for many years. Michelin&Co. was founded in 1889, but the real start of the company was when the cousins of the founders of the Michelin brand opened a production plant producing various rubber products in 1932 in Clermont-Ferrand. 1889 (officially the year when Michelin was founded) is when the brothers Edouard and Andre took over the plant. One of the earliest major successes for the brand was the creation of the detachable pneumatic tyre. This and many other later successes mean that it is now one of the largest and best tyre manufacturers in the world.

I have fitted just two new Michelin ALPIN 5 on the one axel. I couldn't decide, because there were no reviews, but finally I have decided to buy them. I want to add that within last 7 years I had used only Michelin Alpin 3. Tyres are absolutely fantastic. The rubber is so soft, that I could belive how light were they. My fitter have confirmed that those tyres are the softer tyres that he has ever fitted. The grip on the snow is fantastic, tyres stick to the road. The same thing on the dry road. Very hard break off the grip. Micheli ALPIN 5 are also one of the quitest tyres I have ever used! No unnecessary noise. I have using them only two weeks now, but believe me, I am delighted. Now it is difficult to say something about tread wear. Hopefully it will be just like with the Alpine 3, which I was using for last 6 seasons and the tread still looks fine. Maybe the reason is that the winter season is so short. I fully recommend these tyres to every user. Michelin proved one more time, that is one of the best brands! Read more Collapse

I am very happy with these tyres. I never felt confident cornering with my old tyres especially in the wet and they lost traction when pulling off in the wet and always got stuck in the snow. These tyres are the total opposite, they corner very well and have lots of traction in the dry as well as in the wet. I find the stopping distance is very similar in the dry but reduced in the wet and far superior in the snow or frost. Last winter I helped pushed two cars with a couple of other people and then got in my car and drove through 6-7 inches of snow without any issue, I do not think they could believe it. I researched cold weather tyres and decided on these and I have been so happy with them. I thought it was a gimmick to have cold weather tyres but I can assure you it make a big difference. I was wondering for a quite long time, what tyres should I choose. First I have checked Continental, but they did not have my size (850), so I have decided on Michelin ALPIN 5. I was not sure, did I made a correct decision, due to lack of reviews and test resulst (except for one ADAC). I do not know why there is still Alpine 4 but well... It is hard to write the opinion after first drive, but I did the first few hundred miles and ..... the drive is stable and really quiet (I stepped up to the 93 mph and the noise was bearly heard). What is the most important: the fuel efficiency is fantastic, amazing SURPRISE. I hope that my review will help someone, due to lack of reviews. I am fully recommend Michelin ALPIN 5. :) It is hard to have an opinion about the grip on snow or wet surfaces yet. Read more Collapse

So far I am very satisfied with Michelin ALPIN 5. It is a very good tyre. Great grip on the snow and wet surfaces. It is very easy to control the slides and a very good brakes. Tire despite its design and construction of the tread is not surprising on the corners. On the wet surfaces without any doubts, clearly implied a range of border. On the dry surfaceI do not have much expieriance, because I try not to ude winter tyres on the asphalt. After about 1200 miles, you can not see the tread wear and sipes are still in very good condition. We will see how does it looks after about 2-3 years and if I confirm the high tread life and the good grip on the snow, I will buy another Michelin ALPIN 5. Fully recommend these tyres to all users. I am an agressive type of the driver in the city, on the highway (up to 124 mph) and on winding snowy roads in the Scottish Mountains. In every single condition Michelin ALPIN 5 had an outstanding traction. During the summer season I drove on the budget tyes and the differance was enormous. Today, despite the difficult conditions on the road, I am not able to put the car in the controlled slip. Michelin ALPIN 5 is a poor tyre ... to drift :P. I feel very safe and comfortable driving on those tyres. I was not afraid to enter into a snowbank in the mountains and I was annoyed of SUVs which were driving 19 mph with a snow chains, when I had a great grip on snow in my coupe, with a regular winter tyres with the temperature below -14*C Read more Collapse

Michelin ALPIN 5 are great winter tyres. This a new generation of ALPIN tyres, last season I used ALPIN 4. The decision to buy these tyres came from my positive expierance which I have driving on ALPIN 4. The main feature of these tyres is their noise lever. The tyres are incredibely quiet. Noise level is simmilar to the summer tyres. Fantastic grip - on the dry and on wet surfaces. You can drive fast and the grip still good. Due to fact that we have not very hard winter, I did not have the chance to test this tyre in each weather conditions. I was not able to check it on snow. But if it would be competetive with ALPIN 4, this Michelin tyre will be the best that I have ever had. Read more Collapse

Michelin Alpin 5 tyres are not the cheapest but in retrospect I have to admit that the choice was very good, and now would not have bought other tires. Tyres were doing very well on the road where the snow was thick, glaciated layer of snow was not the problem. During heavy rain or snowfall journey on highway at a speed of 140 km / h was not the trouble. The car sticks to the track perfectly. Braking distance very good. Incineration has increased slightly - almost imperceptibly. With a clear conscience I can recommend to all Michelin Alpin 5 ps. If only everyone drove on these tyres, it would be safer on the roads. :) Read more Collapse

To be honest I had a big dilemma with decision which generation to choose. Finaly I have decided in August to buy Michelin ALPIN 5 and by now I am not disappointed. The biggest advantages are: tyres are very quiet (I can hear them at least at the turns with a speed greater), the grip on the bends, regardless of the surface (I mean dry and wet), is very good, it is very difficult to have some opinion about the grip on snow or slush, but I am full of good thoughts. Without any doubts I fully recommend those tyres to all users. One of the best Michelin tyres I've ever had. Best regards, Read more Collapse

After changing to Michelin Alpin 5 from Debica Frigo 2 and after many experiments with other winter tyres is to certify that this is one of the best tyres - put it on a par with Continental T830 and T850, and Yokohama WDrive. For long, the snow was not there, but I came across the most rain during the trip to the mountains the end of January. Alpin5 quietly performed in deep snow and on ice covered with snow. The tyre does not put to the sides when driving faster along the corners. It is quiet. I would recommend to anyone who wants to rapidly and safely enjoy the pleasure of driving. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

Michelin Alpin 5 at the beginning behaved fantastically. I was quite surprised by their grip, and in particular the suppression of lateral slippage (rear-wheel drive). Unfortunately, with the number of kilometers covered their grip decreases. When a car with rear-wheel drive and 160 hp after 4 months you will see and feel already clear decrease adhesion. These are the tyres for a rather wealthy clients - have fantastic properties, but do not belong to the most lively. You have to reckon with replacing every 3 seasons - unless someone goes to 2 mm tread :) Read more Collapse

I bought these tyres two months ago. Previously, I had Alpin 3. They were pretty good and I could continue to drive on them, if not forethought wife and talk that bald tyres are not safe A5’s are fun to keep roads wet unfortunately did not have a possibility to see them on snow and ice . Tyres ok, but without going crazy. I noticed however that the economy (in terms of combustion), is tragic. Something at the expense of something. But it’s better to bet on safety and on some sum per month more for fuel. I recommend Michelin Alpin 5. Read more Collapse

I put the older generation tyres Michelin Alpin 4. Three years ago. The third season of winter. I drive a car with rear drive. With Michelin Alpin 5 tyres, the car grips the road just after a snowfall. Vehicle responds to acceleration and braking. We always like the snow falls and I like to test it, I push the gas and accelerate and brake. I remember how to drive in winter conditions. These tyres were chosen based on the reviews on OPONEO. I analyzed three types of winter tyres when I was looking for tyres. Read more Collapse

I bought Michelin Alpin 5 at a high risk, because there was no time for any testing. Previous seasons on Goodyear UG7 and UG7 +. Annual mileage of about 50000km-60000km. Tyres are outstanding, quiet, very well drain water and slush. Very good handling in the snow, both on the straight and in the corners. On the ice, no tyre stands a chance, but all in all I could drive without any major problems. Generally, it was worth the chance. I do not judge the durability because it takes time. I would recommend! Read more Collapse

Winter was gracious but little used in the snow. Michelin Alpin 5 is quiet despite the high temperatures for the winter (+15). While cornering it is holding more than Dunlop and Goodyear. In the rain puddles worse than the summer but cannot post it done. There are no signs of wear after one winter so longevity is good. In this class does not differ in any direction from the competition in 2014 and was cheaper so the choice was obvious. For large and heavy car will definitely recommend. Read more Collapse

Fantastic tyre - both on dry and wet surface. As for winter tyreMichelin Alpin 5 is very quiet. When it comes to driving on snow and mud, it is very well, but when you drive to drift sniff biting down in the tread is able to turn the ESP - where the tread is clear that there is no such possibility. The only minor drawback is that the tread collects stones (And it is quite a large problem). Generally in good conscience recommend the Michelin Alpin 5 (at least size 205 / 60R16 92H). Michelin Alpin 5 purchased in the previous winter. After half a year of use, when I changed a set of tyres for the summer, in winter ones I could not see the bigger signs of use, and I made 10 thousand kilometres on them. On the snow, during trips to the mountains without complaint, in slush - revelation. Fuel consumption a little larger than on the summer Michelins. It was worth it to spend more money, the price of comfort and safety. Read more Collapse

If you live in the countryside winter tyres are a must, not just for snow, ice and mud, but simply for knowing that you are as safe as you can be. I've used Alpin 4s before - these are just as good if not better. The only downside is that because of all the extra grip, the fuel consumption suffers a bit. But overall it's a small price to pay. Opinion from outside the UK

Michelin tires have always been a model of comfort and safety in my opinion. This is also the case this time, the tires are very quiet and at the same time very soft giving a great comfort of traveling. I heartily recommend to every user, the price, although a bit higher than other producers, is, however, durability and satisfaction that compensates. Alpin 5 tires I bought for the second time, in the previous car it turned out that the set of tires causes the car to download - and here again the Michelin brand stood up to the task, because I considered my complaint without delay, I was sent to examine tires that confirmed that the tires pull off, after about 2 weeks I received a completely new set of tires. I heartily recommend to everyone! Read more Collapse

After przesiadce of Debica Frigo 2 and after many experiments with other winter tires is to certify that this is one of the best tires - put it on a par with Continental T830 and T850, and Yokohama WDrive. For too long, the snow was not there, but I came across the most rain during the trip to Muszyny the end of January. Alpin5 quietly gave advice in deep snow and on ice covered with snow. The tire does not "put" to the sides when driving faster along the arc. For this is quiet. Consumption approx. 5000km especially can not see. I would recommend to anyone who wants to rapidly and safely enjoy the pleasure of driving. Read more Collapse

After a full season (around 6000 km) I can recommend the tire to anyone. Maybe the winter was quite mild, but the tires never let me down. Even with a thick layer of ice, the car moved smoothly. Throughout the winter I did not have any loss of grip. The car is well soundproofed and comfortable, so I also did not feel that the tires were too loud or that the car would be losing comfort. After covering 6000 km, the tire has 8 mm of tread, I do not know how much it was to start. Very nice tread :) Read more Collapse

I bought these tires because for me winter is mainly wet than snowy. The rain behave splendidly. Zero slip and boxing circles, the lack of any understeer. On the dry course, the same thing. On snow or ice you do not know what crazy, because every tire man can fly out of the way, but compared to other tires it and so is the revelation (where all exempt them can even accelerate). I really recommend this model. Riding them is pure and proud to peace on the route. Read more Collapse

Michelin ALPIN5 worked brilliantly during the winter season. Driving in difficult conditions was scary to, and great tires worked well on both dry and icy / snow. A slight increase in combustion, the noise level acceptable considering the safety and comfort we feel when traveling. I highly recommend these tires. If I could have more time to consider the decision on the selection of tires, undoubtedly choice would be to Michelin Alpin5. Excellent product. Read more Collapse
