Federal 595RS-R

While the Oponeo website might think that MGs don't exist any more, I have fitted a set of these tyres to my track-going MGF. The conclusion in short is that I am delighted with my choice, and will definitely be buying these again! I am not sure how they can be beaten for value-for-money. The mid-engined MGs are extremely sensitive to tyres, but on road and track, I have absolute faith in these Federal RSRs. Even in the rain, and semi-flooded track conditions, the tyres appear to find far more purchase than you'd attribute to track-biased rubber. They are predictable, and have a nice, progressive breakaway when the levels of adhesion are eventually breached. After a season of hill-climbs, sprints and a few track days - plus all the mileage of driving to and back from these events, I am amazed that I still have 5mm of tread left after 3,000 non-so gentle miles. Only tyre I can really rate these in comparison with, is the popular Toyo R888 among avid track day and fast road users. At £108 a tyre, these are obviously a huge saving over the R888 which have quickly become quite an overated tyre since competing firms have developed their own track tyres. Apart from the epic level of grip in the dry and very surprisingly in the wet too, these tyres are extremely hard wearing and last as long as the basic budget tyres that people normally buy for the purpose of long life expectancy. I use these as summer "dailys" and frequent track days.... tyres are very good, last reasonabley well and suprisingly good in the wet for a track focused tyre. awesome dry weather grip. I would recomend these, as the cost compaired to other track tyres is very competetive! some people mention a line forming across the tyre as they wear , and throw them out saying "failure" we have contacted federal, and its perfectly normal, and perfectly safe, just part of the manufacturing process. I race in tintop class of the classic car club and using these tyres has not only saved me a lot of money on the purchase price but also on the wear side.I have run both toyos and yokohama before and these tyres are better for wet grip and equal in the dry with better wear rate. Pressures do rise quite a bit from cold but do stabilise well. Would recommend these to everyone who is looking for good Base to start racing on.never driven on the road with them mind. I have had these tyres on my mitsubishi evo for about 8 months now. They are nearing the end of there life but I have been very impressed with how they have worn and how good they are in the dry. In the wet they are to be as expected with good grip if you do not forget that they are a very slick tyre. I might buy these tyres again next summer but for now i will be putting more winter orientated tyres onto the car as the winters are generally wet in the uk. Read more Collapse

Best tyres I've used for grip and very little tyre wall movement, great track tyre only bettered toyo r888's, but these were cheap as hell. Also don't go mad in the wet as they hate standing water and are likely to aquaplane. I don't care for comfort or noise, but if you do then you may want to think again and go for some 'old man's' tyres that are good all rounders. Read more Collapse

very good in the dry and on track..... An excellent summer tyre..... they work surprisingly well in the wet, but when it get scold and wintery put some winters on ;) I have used these for everyday summer tyres, with numerous track days, and pound for pound you can't beat them! Read more Collapse

Long searched for something that will provide excellent grip in the front-wheel drive car with high performance. Where Potenza and Sport Contact 3 slips to the ice, sticks 595RS-R with no problem. On dry pavement starts from 5000rpm (341km, 510Nm) are just a formality. The tyre is definitely not on the short route - about 5km teeth need to get a good warm up. Sensational on dry tires, I have them in Clio Sport (170 hp) and cultivate a very dynamic driving style. The biggest advantage is for sure grip when starting, cornering and braking. For dry really hard to break traction in cornering. The other huge advantage is the stiffness of the side wall, the tire is not at all places. Best dry traction for your money. It is very progressive and will not break you. Wet traction is not too bad, too, but much less progressive. They do not fall apart in pieces like the rest of the Chinese performance tires. Read more Collapse

Used tyre in road sport - KJS, Super OES etc. Very good drivability (better than the Toyo R888). The little wet R1r comparable to Toyo. At the Poznan track slick little worse than s. Persistence very high. Read more Collapse
