Michelin Pilot Road 4

Tyre details: The Michelin Pilot Road 4 is the latest offering from the French tyre group and is designed for sport-touring and touring motorcycles. It performs exceptionally well in any weather conditions. Thanks to its improved 2CT Pilot Road 4 technology, the tyre is even more efficient than its predecessor. Increased mileage results in less frequent tyre changes in the long-term and reduces the overall cost of using the tyre.

The use of 2AT (dual angle) technology is a new addition to this version. This technology ensures additional driving stability for motorcycles placed under a lot of stress. The motorcycle handles better both when driving on straight roads and when going round corners. The rubber has been enriched with new silica compounds, resulting in better grip when driving on both wet and dry surfaces. The system of blades has also been improved.

The new XST+ ( X sipe technology) improves the motorcycle's driving and braking performance, even at pedestrian crossings and other lines painted on the roads. The Pilot Road 4 comes in 3 versions: standard, GT (designed for heavy motorcycles) and Trail - designed for enduro motorcycles. The only difference is the hardness of the compound used and its distribution.

The Michelin Pilot Road 4 comes in sizes ranging from 17 to 19 inches. The tyres have been approved for the BMW R1200 RT motorcycle and will be installed as original parts in almost half of the models released.

    Opinion from outside the UK

I have bought for the first time : Michelin Pilot Road 4 to my HONDA VFR750. Before I had only a budget class tyres and I have to say I see and feel the difference. It is worth spending more money when comfort is your priority. These tyres are more expensive however, there is a better traction, wet grip and noise level. Also this particular model is great in both wet and dry conditions . Tyres felt much harder than any tyre I had ridden on before, These tyres have a very good reputation in the Europe that was also another the reason why I have decided to buy Michelin Pilot Road tyres. Tyres have been fitted and they drove very well on english reads. I've only got 75 miles on them and I hope they will be with me more than only one season. I will definitely buy these again. I've got these fitted to a 2009 Triumph Sprint St 1050 so it's a heavier sport tourer. Unusually, most of the 2000+ miles I've covered this year have been in the wet (including several hundred miles in extreme wet) and I never once had any loss of confidence in these tyres - they were very much planted and while the guys around me in the group were having moments on other tyres I never felt anything other than a solid and predictable level of grip. The dry level grip exceeds my capability / confidence but I've yet to have any cause for concern. After 2000ish miles the tyres show minimal signs of wear. Read more Collapse

    Opinion from outside the UK

From the beginning, I knew that the new Michelin Pilot Road 4 will be the target purchase. Previous Pirelli were not bad, even good, maybe their consumption affected my feelings: not stable on wet, but these Michelin beats everything on the head. I did some 7,000 km in different weather conditions, but always on asphalt. I drive rather quietly (Honda Deaville 700) - tourist. The summer was rather wet, so it was often a ride in the rain, the last trip I wrote on 16/12/2017 - warm, so why not. On dry - ideally, wet on first with a distance (after passing on Pirelli - a little carried out a couple of times), but with more time more confidently, zero oversteer. In November and December, when the weather was kind, despite the slippery asphalt (wet morning and very cold) I did not notice anything disturbing. To sum up - with a tourist ride (enjoying the joy of freedom), even in a less favorable aura, you can feel safe on these tires. As for the tread wear - I have no opinion, I have not noticed strong wear, there is some, but not significant - rather not. And then Michelin. Read more Collapse

Hi, According to tyre specifications and other opinion that I found on the internet Michelin Pilot Road 4 behave perfectly well in the wet road conditions . These tyres are much better in comparison to other brands that I had last year, for instance to Metzler Z8, which drove more than 16 thousand miles. The motorcycle behaves well especially on dry surfaces tyres. That it the first time that I have this tyres on my car and I am very happy with that. Michelin Pilot Road 4 are quiet in comparison to other brands. The noise level maybe is not impressed but it is enough for this tyres. I like the tread-pattern and the fuel efficiency. They performed splendidly, and very good traction. I will drive to Germany next week and I am sure this tyres won’t let me down. Overall I will recommenced this tyres and definitely I will but them again. Read more Collapse

These are the best tyres I have had fitted to a bike. I ride all year round and these tyres keep on gripping even in the cold and wet. When most tyres would be feeling skittish and lacking grip, the PR4s just inspire confidence. Even having to ride (carefully!) over icy patches the other morning, they didn't slip. When the sun comes out they are still a really good tyre, maybe not quite as good as the top Sport Touring tyres, but very good all the same. As a tyre to ride all year on British roads, it can't be beaten! Read more Collapse

I had a pair of Pilot Road 4s fitted to my Street Triple for a trip from the UK to Nordkapp in the north of Norway, and back again - 4000+ miles in total, and I've done a fair bit of city riding since then. Norway was very cold and wet in places, with varying quality of road surface, and these tyres handled everything perfectly. They're easily the best tyres I've ever had (including PR3, PR4 and PR!). Only negative is they're not as flash-looking as the stock Pirellis, but that's the least important thing by far. Read more Collapse

I purchased Michelin Tyres for the quality and design standards. These tyres have excelled all my expectations (still to use in snow) They perform well in dry, light and heavy rain along with those patches of mud on country roads. Whatever's been around the corner, these tyres have so far dealt with. :) As far as Oponeo service in concerned, they delivered the tyres promptly and everything was very smooth (Certainly use again, within the next 6 months) Cant wait to use them for my car tyres Read more Collapse

On my 6th set of Pilot road 4`s. 2 rears to 1 front. Wear rate averages 5k miles on the rear on a BMW R1200GS used mainly on B roads. Very happy with the way the tyres performin the wet and dry. The wear rate is about the same as other brands except the others have more tread depth to start with, hence longer life. The PR4`s only start life with 6.5 mm of tread. Continental trail attacks start with 9 mm of tread depth so they would be good for 7k miles, but not so good in the wet. Read more Collapse

These tyres are so good I rarely notice them on my K1300S. The bike is not renowned for its front end feel but these tyres certainly give you enough to know when to back off. Only once when lent over, applying power too aggressively in the wet on a slip road to join an A road have they let go momentarily. The bike and tyre combination works very well and resulted in a minor tank slapper, stabilised v quickly and with little drama. Highly recommended. Read more Collapse

Best wet weather road tyres hands down. Good dry grip, not as much as a sports tyre but enough to use all the tyre on the road. Good for 8000 miles miles with a mixture of 70% commuting and 30% sports pleasure riding. Grip well from cold and very quick to warm up. Good resistance to squaring off with new harder rear compounds, stable on the edge of the tyre with no squirming like the previous generation tyre. Read more Collapse

PR4s work well right from cold. They give you loads of confidence in the wet as they grip very well without letting go. Dry they stick to the road like glue. I have used the PR3 in the past but the PR4 is better. Life is good and lasts longer than the Pirelli Diablo corsas I had on before. I got nearly double the mileage out of the PR4s. I would certainly buy this tyre again for sure. Read more Collapse

On my 4th rear and 2nd front on a R1200GS TC. Best road only tyre that I have tried so far, Inspire confidence in wet weather. Wear 5K miles rear and 10K miles front. They would last longer than the competition if they had more tread to start with, only 6.5 mm rear tread when fitted. Will continue to fit these until a longer lasting tyre with equal wet grip appears. Read more Collapse

As I am commuting to London from Kent daily and doing quite a bit of touring during a year these tires are the best I came across. Especially performance in wet conditions. Drain covers on the road give me no more problems ( just the tires have to be warm). Tire wear is a bit quicker but keep in mind that it is very sticky when wormed up. Worth every penny. Greetings, I bought Michelin Pilot Road 4a couple a months ago . I was interesting in a good sommer tyre, I read revives and I decided to buy these particular model. Many users recommended Michelin so I thought why not? Good money, is a premium brand and I can afford it. I am a rather cautious driver I don’t use it only during the weekends but for a daily commuting as well My previous Matador tyres were definitely worst. One of the advantages is noise level.Tyres are quite quiet. I am impressed! Last year I have driven over 30000 miles on my previous tyres and I hope to make a better result with them. I've ridden last month European roads and these tyres have given NO REASON not to trust them. Good fuel efficiency. This particular model; Michelin Pilot Road 4 I have to say grip well. Even driving very fast I fell that I still have the control over my car. I feel very safe on these tyres an even my wife who is borrowing my car is impressed. Read more Collapse

Tires "tested" on the flat and in the mountains, mainly on asphalt but it happened on szutropodobnych, 95% in the dry but did not pass it without rain, the temperature. 0-38st of C. Great tyre from the cold and wet bags of grip. Had a puncture after 300 miles as something got stuck between the laterall line across tyre. Will buy another and see how I get on and if anymore punctures arise then I won't be buying them again. I've never had a puncture before with any other tyre so it maybe bad luck I will wait and see. After 3000Km these barely look scrubbed in. Nice and sticky in the dry and confidence inspiring in the wet. Too new to have ridden in winter yet, but I'm expect they'll be good. A huge upgrade from the old BT020 tyres the factory put on which gave 9,000Km of service. These PR4s are heading in the direction of that kinda mileage too. Read more Collapse

That is not the first Michelin tyres I have had, I was very pleased with this brand that is why I decided to buy this model: Michelin Pilot Road 4. Also they have lots of positive reviews on the internet. I agree with all of them. I do not regret this choice at all. Tyres are a solid tyre, excellent grip, which drive particularly well on wet roads. Thick and strong rubber .I have a family and safety is important for me. Still I'm a father and husband and I would like to drive safe. Michelin hold very well on roads. Nice thread pattern, and because I have a small children and we are driving a lot nice level is very important for me. These tyres Michelin Pilot Road 4 tyres are not very quiet but despite the fact they meet my expectations, Good value for money. Great traction. I will definitely but Michelin tyres again. Hello, I want to share my opinion about this tyres. I wouldn’t buy premium brand tyres because I cannot afford it. However, it was present form my parents. I am a your person, I have my driving licence more than 8 years and I have a small experience. The tyres are perfect!! If I could I would buy only Michelin tyres. Wet grip, traction and noise level are perfect. There is no comparison with my previous japanese tyres. It is worth to buy Michelin Pilot Road 4 because the comfort driving is definitely better. There is no comparison to budget tyres, I am driving every single day to work, and the tyres looks like new. They are look great on my car and I will defiantly save some money to buy another set of Michelin tyres once again. Read more Collapse

Much stiffer than the previous PR3s and lacking a little feel in the wet and in the dry when not pushing. However lots of grip and they don't move, really grippy in the wet but just lack a little feel. Lasting well and currently up to 8,000 miles so I expect to change them at about 10,000 miles. I tried some tires so far (Diablo / road / Smart few others), but the Pilot Road 4 is the best yet. I mainly use the bike for commuting (Ireland). performance in wet weather was a must, and these tires give good grip in the wet. I have much more confidence in corners with these on. I am so amazed with these tyres. I have been on track, dry road, wet road, really wet road and the tyres asked to be pushed more and more each time. The feedback is amazing i have completed 2.5k miles and the tyres still look brand new. Use this website for best deal in the world. Read more Collapse

Very long life of 12000 km. On a Honda CB 1300. Tire gives good feedback on dry road surfaces and is an absolute highlight in wet road surfaces. I wear 1 set per year and enjoy every kilometer. The tire profile is definitely not beautiful, but it's so perfect that I forget it. Read more Collapse
