Barum SnoVanis

After my first winter season done on these tyres I am very pleasantly surprised that you can get such good winter tyres for such a small price. For the whole winter I have never encountered a problem with driving uphill or droving out from any place, and I have to say I drive a lot on conutry roads, where snow ploughs may not drive very often. In the first season, my Barum SnoVanis did their job for an A. We'll see how will they do in the second and probably the last season, due to the fact that I do ca. 20 thousand miles in winter. After 2 seasons these tyres will have over 40 thousand miles, so I don't want to risk and fit them for the third season. Taking into account that these tyres have a ridiculously low price comparing to its awesome quality, I prefer to buy a new set of Barum SnoVanis every two years than risk sliding on much more expensive tyres for four seasons. Barum SnoVanis is a great tyre but it has one drawback, at least for me. It wears off pretty quickly - I did ca. 15 thousand miles and I already have only half of the tread. I have switched front and rear tyres, and I guess I'll do ca. 30 thousand miles in total and will be able to throw them out. I do 6500 miles a month so for me the mileage is too low. However, overall the tyre is very good - it is quiet on wet surfaces and grips the road nicely, it may "whistle" a bit at sppeds above 60 MPH but it's not disturbing. It also does a good job on snowy roads. The tyre is for vans, but doesn't have the C marking, and therefore has softer sidewalls which can be sensed in the ruts. Barum SnoVanis are performing quite well. The distance I did doesn't let me assess their wear, but after 6000 miles they look like new. My previous Pirelli tyres weren't much better, and the price difference between them and current Barums is huge. Moreover, the winters now are not so harsh and super-grip tyres are not required. Also, one more thing about Pirelli tyres - they wore off rapidly on the rear axle of my Transporter, and they were almost square when I unfitted them. Barum SnoVanis are good and cheap tyres. With my calm driving style, I can easily plough through even totally snow-covered routes. As all winter tyres, this one is weak on ice, and you also have to watch out not to get stuck in deep fresh snow (my car is a rear wheel drive and I have to put ca. 300 kgs to stop my car from getting stuck), but overall I am happy with them despite the fact I only did my first season on them. Barum SnoVanis is a very good tyre which behaves really confidently in harsh winter conditions (I tested it in extreme conditions like driving up a 10 - 15% steep hill). The tyre is average on ice, but overall it's one of the best winter tyres I had in eight years, of course in this price range. Barum SnoVanis are pretty good, I can say. I guess they are similar to Continental VancoWinter 2, I have them on the front wnd they are very good. This tyre seems to be a previous model of Continental after some changes. I can definitely recommend borth Continentals and Barums. It all depends how much money you want to spend. I wasn't able to check how they behave on ice, as there was no ice. Though, I can definitely say Barum SnoVanis have sensationally low wear - I also use them in the summer. Their noise level is comparable to winter Michelin tyres - but it's not bad. Overall, this is a great tyre for all conditions. Read more Collapse

I got convinced to buy Barum SnoVanis by their low price. And it didn't even cross my mind that their quality can be so good! Even in summer, with temperatures up to 30 Celsius degrees, the tyre behaves perfectly! Overall, I guess I can say they can be recommended to everyone. Read more Collapse

Barum SnoVanis are very soft and quiet tyres. They are definitely worth their price. Apart from these tyres, I used some other brands which were more expensive and worse - eg. Debica. I especially recommend to put these ones to the front. Read more Collapse
